Recap of 24 Hour Prayer Vigil at Troy Christian Chapel

Here are some pictures taken during our 24 Hour Prayer Vigil held from December 31st to January 1st. The first picture was taken at a prayer station having to do with our contributions to the body of Christ. Individuals could add a piece of stained glass to help show how the individual contributes to the whole.

The second picture is that of a barbed-wire cross which reminded us of the cruelty of what the Lord Jesus faced to pay for our sins. On this cross, we would place a piece of dirty cloth and would take a piece of clean cloth in its place, to remind us of the great exchange which Christ made in which He paid for our sin and we are given His perfect righteousness in its place.

Around midnight, it started to snow. And did it snow. It was a powerful reminder of God's peace in our surroundings. It did make for some interesting stories among us as we exchanged stories of the challenge of getting to church in a middle of the night snowstorm. We were so blessed to see some of our fellow intercessors braving the snow at 4am to 6am to get to church.

This is a long view of the labyrinth we used in our fellowship during the Prayer Vigil. There were seven stops (prayer stations) which were powerful and vivid reminders of God's love.We know that some folks who wanted to come to the Prayer Vigil simply could not get there due to the snow. Yet, we sensed that God did indeed want us to do what we were doing. There was a sense of quiet and peace both outside (with the falling snow) and inside with the labyrinth and in the sanctuary. In the church sanctuary, there was silent prayer for repentance and reflection, both on the end of one year and start of a new one.

24 Hour Prayer Vigil

Troy Christian Chapel will conduct a vigil of 24 hour prayer over the end of this year and the start of 2008. The church will be open for prayer from 2pm on Monday, December 31st to 2pm on Tuesday, January 1st.

There will be silent prayer in the sanctuary. In the fellowship, we will debut our new prayer labyrinth along with prayer stations which pertain to the theme of the church as the body of Christ. We are only asking for an hour at at time commitment (we're not asking anyone to be there the full 24 hours).

We live in difficult and uncertain times. Our local economy is in desperate need for prayer. Our nation is in a measureable moral slide. Yet, more important than that, too many of us are complacent in our faith and not seeking for how God would have us grow more and more in Christ. This time of prayer will be an excellent time to seek the face of God in prayer for our nation, our churches, our communities, our families and ourselves.

We invite all who read this to consider yourself invited to attend. We would especially welcome participation from area churches such as Zion Christian, Woodside Bible Church, Troy Assembly of God, Kensington Community Church and Harvest Christian International. For more information, please call the church at (248) 689-2046.

Happy Reformation Day

Today is the 490th anniversary of Martin Luther's nailing of the 95 Theses to the church door in Wittenberg. A simple request for an academic debate by Luther (the church door at that time was the same as a bulletin board in ours) developed into a call to reform the church and return it to its biblical moorings.

To all readers of this blog, Happy Reformation Day!!!
